Management Style |
I describe my management style as
'Imaginative-Structuralist'. I know that structures and rules are necessary and provide
clarity. A committee or working group without terms of reference can easily turn into
a talk-fest that goes nowhere.
But rules
are, by definition, limiting. Structures may help you avoid trouble but once you are
faced with a problem, following rules alone won't solve the problem. For that, you
must use your imagination. Anyone can follow rules; to lead is to have vision and
that takes imagination.
| Clarity of purpose and role is necessary in any
endeavour. But clear lines should not restrict so much that you cannot see 'out
of the box' and beyond your present situation. |
